February 13, 2023 News Release

Lacey Police Department: Yesterday morning, our officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at Coastal Farm and Home Supply.

Coastal Farm’s security advised that the two subjects were using a silver pick up truck to “ram” the back of the business to gain entry. While Lacey units were arriving, they observed a vehicle matching the description pulling out of the parking lot with no lights on. Units caught up to the vehicle, which was just entering I-5 North. When Lacey units attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed. Based on the vehicle driving erratically and per state law, all Lacey officers terminated the stop and discontinued.

Shortly after, a @thurstoncountysheriff Deputy spotted the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Old Pacific HWY towards Pierce County. Based on the vehicle speeds, the deputy did not attempt to stop the vehicle.

After further investigation, it was discovered that the silver 2019 Ford Ranger was stolen and involved in two other burglaries in Lakewood on the same night.

We are asking for your help! If you see the vehicle in these photos or have any information regarding this incident, please call 911 or CrimeStoppers at: 800-222-TIPS and reference case 2023–00743. #PleaseHelp #NotCool #WeWillFindYOU #LaceyUnited #LaceyPD

Recently there has been a sharp increase in thefts at area gyms. Wallets and purses have been taken from lockers as well as from cars in the parking lots around the gyms. The best advice is do not take valuables to the gym. If you are using a locker, get a quality lock. The price difference will be made up in the security of your items. Inexpensive locks, whether key or combination, are too easy to defeat. Thieves look for something quick in order to avoid being seen. Using quality locks and putting property out of sight in vehicles will encourage thieves to leave your valuables alone.

The local police and sheriff’s departments request your help in preventing fraud and identity theft. Recently we have seen a large increase in fraud and identity theft cases. These thieves prey on the fact that they can scare their victims into giving out information and/or sending them money without questioning. Remember that if you didn’t initiate the contact, it is probably a fraud attempt. No government agency will ask you to get gift cards to send them money. Do not give these callers any personal information. If you think it might be legitimate, look up the real number to that agency and call them to check. Do not use the number these people give you.
